A Bit About Me and My Practice
I produce contemporary outcomes by using a combination of different, often traditional, low-tech methods and techniques. I enjoy utilizing a range of materials in my work and, through this, learning about their personalities and how they behave. My work is very much process-led.
I find the actual making of the work therapeutic and relaxing. I aim to communicate and share this feeling with my audience through the images and objects created. I listen to a lot of music as I make, so the drawings, prints, pots and sculptures often reflect rhythms. Similar shapes and bold colours can be seen throughout my work. This has evolved, and will continue to, by using a playful, light hearted and experimental approach to achieve fresh and honest outcomes. I try to make work that is initially aesthetically pleasing, but also embraces process, is made well, with an understanding for the material, whether it be a 2D wall piece, something functional or a stand-alone piece of sculpture. I aim to make my pieces straightforward and accessible to all - not wrapped up in too much arty jargon. |
My work is influenced various street artists, and also shapes, growths and patterns seen in nature and decay. I am inspired by the transition of street art escaping the frame in the gallery to developing a new life and a new audience existing outside the conventional exhibition space constraints and vice versa. I find the placement of art within the environment very appealing, and also how this affects the viewers’ opinion of it.
By working in this way I have established that different images and forms can mean something totally different to each and every individual. The way the viewer interacts and reacts to the work is important to me as their comments and thoughts can influence future developments.
